Lung cancer is the third most common site of origin of metastatic cancer (after breast and prostate cancer) deposits in bone. Sufferers are typically over 40, and the average age is approximately 55. A smoking history is almost always in attendance. Other than their painful bone lesion, Sufferers might have no other manifestation of cancer. When someone gets a metastasis and no site of origin could be found (a metastasis of unknown origin) the most probable site is the lung or kidney.

Lung cancer is the foremost cause of death of cancer in both men and women, and has become more common in women in the last few decades for the reason that more women are smoking cigarettes.

While it could spread to any organ in the body, certain organs — especially the adrenal glands, brain, liver, and bone — are the most widespread sites for metastasis. Lung cancer with metastasis to bone is one of the most aggressive tumors and has an extremely unfavorable prognosis. The average survival following the diagnosis of a met is roughly 6 months. However, a few selected cases have been connected with prolonged survival with proper treatment.

Chemotherapy, radiation, and steroids are treatments for lung cancer that could weaken bone. To settle on whether the skeleton is being affected by the treatment, lots of doctors suggest that patients be given screening tests to assess their bone density before, during, and after cancer treatment.

Roughly 30 to 40 percent of people with lung cancer will have their cancer metastasize to bone. When it metastasizes, tumor cells from the original cancer break off and pass through the blood stream to a new site, where they develop and grow. Even though the disease can extend to any part of the skeleton, tumor cells most frequently have an effect on the bones that have the greatest blood supply. These include the ends of the legs and arms, the ribs, the pelvis, and the also spine.

If you or someone you know feels any of signs or symptoms seek advice from a physician right away. Early detection can stand for the difference between life and death for lung cancer sufferers–the 5-year survival rate for sufferers whose cancer is found while it is still localized (affecting simply the lungs) is nearly fifty percent.

Asbestos Millboard was applied in the construction of walls and ceilings, especially around furnaces and wood-burning stoves where insulation and fire protection was needed. Nearly all varieties of the millboard usually contained between 80 and 85 percent asbestos.

Asbestos has been extensively utilized for various items that require insulating qualities and or fire resistance. Houses constructed between 1930 and 1950 may contain asbestos as insulation. Older products like stove-top pads may contain some asbestos compounds. Walls and floors around wood burning stoves possibly will be sheltered with asbestos paper, millboard, or cement sheets.

The presence of materials like asbestos millboard in your home is not necessarily a reason for fear. They are safe if they are in good condition and are not disturbed. Asbestos is hazardous simply if fibers are releasing into the air and are able to be inhaled into the lungs.

As stated above, if your home was constructed during or before the 1980s, it is likely it may have been built making use of asbestos millboard or other asbestos-containing construction materials. While materials are intact and in good condition pose little hazard, it is significant to identify whether asbestos-containing materials exist in your home in order that you monitor the condition of the materials. It is mainly vital to observe if you are planning to remodel or renovate, since this is likely to cause disturbances that might release asbestos fibers into the air.

Any person who was involved in manufacturing or making use of asbestos millboard and other asbestos-containing products might be at risk for developing mesothelioma or other asbestos-linked diseases like asbestosis or lung cancer. There are possible dangers for the families of such workers also, as well as individuals who live in homes built using asbestos-containing building materials.

The earlier symptoms of malignant pleural mesothelioma are very similar to those experienced with other lung conditions, such as pneumonia or lung cancer. Symptoms also tend to present very gradually, and may therefore go unnoticed for a while. Breathlessness is one of the early and more common symptoms of pleural mesothelioma. This may present as a recent onset of shortness of breath, or a recent increase in shortness of breath. Breathlessness may be caused by a buildup of fluid (pleural effusion) in the space surrounding the lungs. This buildup of fluid may be removed periodically to make breathing easier. Certain substances may also be introduced into the space between the pleural membranes where fluid collects. These substances cause an inflammatory reaction in the pleural membranes, causing them to fuse together and thereby preventing the formation and collection of more fluid.

The thickening of the pleural membranes due to the growth of cancer cells also restricts lung function and contributes to breathlessness. Sometimes, this thickened tissue may require surgical removal to restore some lung function. The removal process is called decortication or pleurectomy.

Malignant mesotheliomas tend to spread fairly rapidly to other parts of the body, and this spread can result in additional symptoms. When pleural mesothelioma spreads to the chest wall and other tissues in the chest, it can result in severe pain. Even before the cancer spreads, chest pain, particularly in the lower chest and side, may be experienced. Chest pain tends to become progressively worse as the cancer spreads. Severe pain may be treated with strong pain-relieving drugs or with radiotherapy. When pleural mesothelioma spreads to the lungs, symptoms that are typically seen in lung cancer, such as hoarseness and coughing up of blood, may be present.

As with other cancers, the effect of pleural mesothelioma is widespread. The increased metabolism caused by cancer cells results in fever, weight loss and fatigue.

Let us take the scenario of a seventy-year-old man, who is a nonsmoker and otherwise fairly healthy, approaching the local doctor with complaints of persistent cough, chest congestion and weight loss. Other symptoms may include difficulty in swallowing and loss of appetite. The physician has several options of diagnosis, but pleural mesothelioma, a lethal cancer that originates in the lining enveloping the lungs, may not be considered.

There are several reasons for this. Recognition of pleural mesothelioma as a separate disease entity started as recently as the 1960s. Currently only about 3000 cases are reported annually in the United States. Many doctors may not have seen a single such case during their career. The symptoms are similar to many lesser afflictions. The only general lead is that the disease seems to be more prevalent in the Pacific and Mid-Atlantic States. It is also known that the major cause for pleural mesothelioma is exposure to asbestos. But how much contact with the material leads to this disease is unclear. Even the family members of an asbestos worker are at risk from the dust he carries home on his body and clothing.

This form of cancer has a long latent period and the symptoms manifest only twenty to forty or more years after exposure to asbestos. This also vitiates the possibility of correct diagnosis.

Once the doctor eliminates the chances of other diseases and pursues the pleural mesothelioma line, the patient is subjected to a battery of tests and imaging procedures like x-ray and CT scan. Fluid collection in the thoracic cavity is an indicator, but not conclusive. Confirmation can be obtained with a pleural (pleura is the membrane covering the lungs) biopsy using an electron microscope.

Since pleural mesothelioma is an aggressive cancer, early detection and immediate introduction of appropriate management are of critical importance. The possibility of a doctor who fails to diagnose pleural mesothelioma or misdiagnoses it, being sued for medical malpractice cannot be totally ruled out. But usually the law applicable is asbestos product liability.

It is generally accepted that pleural mesothelioma is a disease that is difficult to diagnose. To help the doctor, the patient should inform him at the very outset about exposure to asbestos, if any.

Mesothelioma cancer is a unique type of cancer that can develop in the human body in certain places like the pleura, the peritoneum and pericardium. The pleura refer to the outer membranes that surround the lungs and have some protective functions.

The peritoneum are the membranes that surround all internal organs in the abdominal cavity as well as the internal wall of the abdominal cavity. These membranes have some protective functions and help in the movement processes.

The pericardium is also membrane or a sac that surround the heart and its great arteries. Every place cause a different type of mesothelioma and we can differentiate every type as following. The pleural mesothelioma when the tumors are detected in the pleura.

The pericardial mesothelioma when the tumors are detected in the pericardium. And the last type is the peritoneal mesothelioma when the tumors are detected in the pericardium. If you or one of your family has working in any manufacturing company that was producing construction relate products and has diagnosed as a mesothelioma patient, that company almost was the cause of this mesothelioma.

In the past, those construction companies were used Asbestos and these materials are the main reason for mesothelioma. Then, you can make a lawsuit against this manufacturing company asking for a suitable compensation due to your unmeasured suffering whether it a pain suffering or an inability of working suffering. The settlements of mesothelioma can be millions of dollars and there are many cases have succeeded and get great compensations.

In an earlier article, I have elaborated on the possible legal solutions one can consider when handling cases or suffering from mesothelioma or asbestos cancer. In this article, I shall briefly discuss other forms of situations or occasions one maybe exposed to potential side effects, giving cause to such cancer.

We maybe aware that certain occupations will expose particular groups of people to mesothelioma or asbestos poisoning. Generally such cancers occur as a result of constant exposure or inhalation of fine particles of certain asbestos materials. Common trades include those working in the construction and renovation industry, factories supplying asbestos materials to related industries, and so on. Although regulations have already been passed to ban the use of asbestos in most countries, there are still certain states or countries that choose to ignore such regulations, at the risk of their workers’ health. Those that choose to comply have already begun switching to other forms of similar property materials, other than asbestos.

What is mentioned above is of direct concern to those involved in trades that have first hand exposure to asbestos. However, one should also be concerned even if you are only a end user of such materials in your homes of workplace.

As time goes by, any form of material will deteriorate. Wall paint will being to lose its color or peel off, metal fixtures may begin to rust as a result of oxidation, and even plastic items may begin to turn moldy due to temperature variances depending on its intended use. Likewise, users of asbestos products can expect their ceiling boards or wall partitions to deteriorate as well.

While this may appear to be common sense knowledge (now that we look at the behaviour of other materials), there are a surprising number of people out there who aren’t aware of such characteristics! And over the years, those occupants who work or live in such premises utilizing asbestos materials may not even be aware of the daily constant exposure to such deterioration.

Think about it: if such materials are really that safe to handle and work with, why are the workers handling and assembling asbestos boards in your vicinity provided with face masks and gloves. It’s to minimize their exposure during the installation process! If that’s the case, why aren’t end users required to put on face masks when they are surrounded by asbestos material? See the logic?

Having said that, are you provided with the necessary level of protection if your organization is in the construction and renovation trade? Is your company trying to reduce its cost exposure by cutting back on the necessary personal protective equipment?

As discussed above, regardless of which side of the spectrum you are currently at, everyone needs to know the risks and potential exposure involved in asbestos environment. Just remember that at the end of the day, we should not be ignorant of potential resources and avenues available to us in ensuring our personal well being.

Remember this: you owe it to yourself to work and live in a safe and asbestos free environment. And if this is not the case presented to you, you have every option and right to seek the relevant solutions to these mesothelioma and asbestos problems.

(Note: readers must be aware that the views expressed above are those of the author and should not be considered as legal advice or grounds to pursue legal judgement. Visit our website to find out more on mesothelioma and asbestos solutions.)

When a person is exposed to asbestos, in many years that person may exhibit a variety of symptoms that are indicative of past exposure. Some of the signs of asbestos exposure are more serious than others. Probably the most serious of the consequences is pleural effusions.

The pleura, or lining of the chest cavity, has two layers. The inner layer covers the longs while the outer layer lines the rib cage and the diaphragm. Between these two layers, the body produces a fluid. This fluid acts like the oil in a car’s engine. It allows the lungs to expand and contract smoothly which, in turn, allows a person to inhale and to exhale easily. Sometimes, the body produces too much of the fluid. When this happens, fluid can build up between the two layers of the pleura. When the build up occurs, it is referred to as a pleural effusion.

While not always harbingers of doom because they are frequently due to pneumonia, pleural effusions can also be a symptom of a variety of types of cancer. This side effect develops once cancer cells have spread into the pleura. When the cells migrate, they irritate the pleura and cause fluid to build up. The most common types of cancer to cause pleural effusions are lung cancer, breast cancer, ovarian cancer, lymphomas, and mesothelioma.

When fluid builds up in the pleura, it presses on the lungs. This makes it less easy for a person to breath since the lung is unable to expand to its full capacity due to the presence of the fluid. In some situations, the lung, or at least part of it, will collapse. When the lung collapses, the person is likely to become increasingly breathless, not only while active but also while resting. Chest pain and a cough might also develop.

Pleural effusions are typically detected through the use of a chest x-ray of an individual who is x-rayed while lying on his or her side. By the time a pleural effusion develops, a person has usually already developed mesothelioma. This is not always the case but it frequently is true. Mesothelioma is caused by exposure to asbestos. The tiny fibers get trapped in the lungs, irritating them to the point that scar tissue develops. Because the scar tissue is exposed to asbestos, it is not an exact replica of the previous tissues. This results in tumors developing.

We are suffering from different types of diseases at present. There are different types of diseases that require a lot of money for proper treatment. It becomes impossible for the common people to arrange lots of money for the treatment procedures and medicines. It is better that we must do something in advance in order to save from any financial crisis.

The Pleural thickening is a disease that attacks the lungs of the human being due to continuous exposure to the asbestos. The builders and the dealers are in constant threat of the Pleural thickening. The patients must start treatment as soon as the disease is noticed in the body or he or she suffers from any kind of physical disorder.

The person must claim the money spend in the treatment from the first day. At first, the whole thing may appear to some extent quite complicated and tough. However, many websites will guide the patients in getting the claim. There are certain processes of claiming the money for the treatment. A good amount of planning is essential for successful claiming.

The steps or procedures for claiming the money are very easy and some companies are there who will give the money very quickly without any hassles or confusions. The patients must take legal steps from the initial stage. They must have legal papers to get the money in proper ways. Any kind of illegal documents or information may prove fatal. The company will ask different types of questions to the patients and this is in the rule. He or she must be truthful while giving the information.

The claiming companies will check the vital statistics of the companies that use asbestos and then they will file case in the court to get the compensation for the person. They will ask to show various medical tests reports like scan test, X-ray reports and other related documents.

Medical reports that are genuine and legal are very much important to get the compensation of Pleural Thickening.

The patients must hire a good and experienced lawyer who will fight for them to the court to get the reimbursement. An efficient and dedicated lawyer is very important to get the money as compensation. Thus, it is not very tough to get the compensation to the affected persons. You have to claim the money by placing the real and genuine documents and start the battle for the compensation from the very beginning so that you will get the amount in time and you do not have to rush from one place to another. Thus, it is easy to claim the money for the Pleural Thickening. The claim of Pleural thickening will help you to give protection.

Signs of Lung Cancer, the signs and symptoms to check for. It seems as though today more and more people are having pulmonary problems which can be signs of Lung Cancer.

Let us take a look at the signs of Lung Cancer and it’s symptoms; suppose you are having pulmonary problems and you believe that these are the Signs of Lung Cancer, it is a good idea to go to a physician to have tests done, this is the only way of knowing you have lung cancer.

First of all, you may want to know that there are four types of Lung Cancer, these four types of Lung Cancer are: small cell lung cancer, squamous cell carcinoma lung cancer, large cell carcinoma lung cancer and adenocarcinoma lung cancer. All of these four are most likely linked to smoking or second degree smoke, but it is also known that the Signs of Lung Cancer can have an inherited component to this. There is a research being done, that maybe the signs of Lung Cancer can be linked to diet, but that is still in the research arena, but some signs of Lung Cancer can be related to diet.

The symptoms and signs of Lung Cancer are difficulty breathing, coughing up blood, chest pain, loss of appetite, weight loss and general fatigue, but there are some signs of Lung Cancers that do not have any noticeable symptoms, this is because this type is not in the advance stages yet, this type of Lung Cancer is where it has spread to other parts of the body, and therefore it is hard to see these signs of Lung Cancer.

Sometimes the signs of Lung Cancer can be detected by a simple chest x-ray but sometimes with the signs of Lung Cancer you have to have a test called bronchoscopy, this test is when a thin, flexible tube is inserted down the airways of the throat and this allows the doctors to see the inside of the lungs, sometimes they will take a biopsy to determine if the Lung Cancer has spread, they will have to take other tests depending on the type of Lung Cancer, such as a CT Scan, liver ultrasound or bone scan maybe this will determine if the Lung Cancer has spread to other areas.

Now, depending on the type of Lung Cancer depends on the treatment that is used a drug treatment maybe used for small lung cancers this is called (chemotherapy) this is the usual treatment for the signs of small lung cancer, radiotherapy is therefore used for the other types of Lung Cancer that I had mentioned earlier. Although Lung Cancer is one of the most dangerous Lung Cancers there are, remember there is still a cure and hope (we always have hope) for Lung Cancer or any type of cancer.

In Lung Cancer the drug treatments that I mentioned, cause bruising, fatigue, hair loss, diarrhoea, nausea and vomiting, but the nausea and vomiting can be assisted with other medications and the hair loss? well..the hair will grow back.

If you feel that you may have Lung Cancer and have these symptoms, please see your doctor and get these tests done, Lung Cancer can spread to other parts of the body, and the sooner you find the problem, the sooner you it can be treated.

With Lung Cancer it is impairative that you get help and treated immediately. Lung Cancer can be deadly as we all know so take the tests and if you have Lung Cancer, donut let it beat you. You beat Lung Cancer.

Mesothelioma has become one of the most killer viruses of the last three decades. The root of the virus lies in an exposure to asbestos material. Even though the disease is considered less widespread as compared to other forms of cancer such as lung cancer, it’s disturbing growth due its airborne mode of exposure has made it quite lethal. There is still no cure for this form of cancer except chemotherapy treatment. According to a report Malignant mesothelioma kills 10,000 people a year in the US alone.

The problem lies in the fact that there are no real alternatives to asbestos. And since the late 70s companies that manufacture this material have consistently lied or ignored the levels of hazard. But due to the thousands of tort cases based on asbestos exposure, manufacturing companies are doing whatever they can to meet standards of workers safety.

Transmission through Asbestos

Only by the 70s was there sufficient data available that comprehensively proved the connection of asbestos exposure. The toxic nature of asbestos if inhaled over a long period of time leads to mesothelioma form of cancer. There have been secondary transmissions or in-direct cases of transmission. In 2004 a lady in England got infected with mesothelioma due to the clothes of her father which was exposed to high levels of this toxic material. This case creates a whole different level of risk as the person concerned was not directly working in an asbestos environment.

The one redeeming fact of asbestos exposure is that malignant mesothelioma transmission is not possible with small periods of exposure. One cannot get this cancer if it inhales the toxins a few times. A sustained exposure to this environment can be the only cause for this disease. According to Centre of Disease Control (CDC) a person may take up to 7 to 10 years to develop mesothelioma

Diagnosis of the Disease

An early diagnosis is the key to fighting this disease therefore diagnosing a set of common symptoms as early as possible is highly recommended. This is especially in the case of people working in the high risk environment.

The following are the basic processes used in diagnosing mesothelioma

(A) A CAT scan or an MRI scan to check the presence of large fluid

(B) Lung function test and a Chest X-ray is performed after a thorough physical check

(C) Finally a biopsy is needed for confirmation of malignant mesothelioma

The biopsy depends upon where the cancer is located. Most commonly it is located in chest or in the abdomen. Though no test is perfect, based on medical history and the person’s possible exposure to asbestos, certain inferences can be drawn.
